Biography: Commercial Arbitration

Philippe Pinsolle is a partner in Shearman & Sterling's international arbitration group.

Philippe Pinsolle has acted as counsel in over 100 international arbitrations under the rules of the ICC, ICSID, UNCITRAL, and the Swiss rules, primarily in investment, oil and gas, energy, telecom or defence industry matters. He has also acted as chairman, sole arbitrator and party-appointed arbitrator in institutional and ad hoc international arbitrations.

Philippe Pinsolle lectures on International Arbitration at the Institut de Droit des Affaires of the University of Aix-Marseille III, and at the University of Versailles. He holds a JD from the University of Panthéon-Assas (Paris II), an MJur from the University of Oxford (Hertford College) and an MBA from ESSEC. He has authored numerous articles and case notes on international arbitration, in French and in English.

Philippe Pinsolle is a former president of the international arbitration commission of the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA). He is a co-founder of the Young Arbitration Practitioners (YAP), an informal network including leading young arbitration practitioner groups worldwide. He regularly appears as speaker, particularly on issues of investment arbitration.

Philippe Pinsolle is a member of the Paris Bar and of the Bar of England & Wales (Gray's Inn). He speaks French, English and Spanish.
