Biography: Commercial Arbitration

Jan Paulsson heads the international arbitration practice of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. He has acted as counsel or arbitrator in over 400 arbitrations in Europe, Asia, the US and Africa under the rules of the ICSID, ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL and the Stockholm Institute. He has also acted in ad hoc arbitrations governed by national laws and before public international law tribunals, including the International Court of Justice. He was ad hoc arbitrator at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Nagano and Sydney.

He is currently president of the London Court of International Arbitration and the World Bank Administrative Tribunal. Among numerous publications, he is author of Denial of Justice in International Law (2005) and co-author of the leading commentary International Chamber of Commerce Arbitration (3rd ed, 2000).

Jan was educated at Harvard College of Law, Yale Law School and the University of Paris. He speaks English, French, Swedish and Spanish.
