Biography: Banking
Jose Antonio Olaechea is managing partner of Estudio Olaechea, one of the leading full-service law firms in Peru. He received his JD from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru and was admitted to the Lima Bar Association in 1987.Mr Olaechea has a broad experience in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, banking and financing, foreign investment, project finance and privatisations of companies and assets.
He has been chapter chair for Peru of the New York State Bar Association since 2004, he is arbitrator of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), arbitrator of the American Chamber of Commerce of Peru (AMCHAM), arbitrator at the National and International Arbitration Center of the Lima Chamber of Commerce, and he represents the Lima Bar Association at the International Bar Association Council.
Mr Olaechea has been and is a member of the board of directors of several companies, including banks and leasing entities, and is honorary consul general of Denmark in Peru. In addition, he has participated as speaker and panellist in local and international conferences and seminars organised by the International Bar Association, and the New York State Bar Association, among others.
Other professional activities include his publications: 'Corporate Acquisitions and Mergers' in Kluwer Law International; 'Peru: A Mining Country' in Mineral Resources Engineering; 'Peru: An Attractive Inverstment Opportunity' in LatinFinance.
He is fluent in Spanish, English and French.
