Biography: Commercial Litigation

Bernard W Nussbaum has been a partner in the litigation department at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz since 1968 where he specialises in corporate and securities litigation. Mr Nussbaum has served in both the public and private sectors throughout his legal career. After graduating from law school, he worked as an assistant attorney in the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. Mr Nussbaum has also served in various governmental capacities, including as senior associate special counsel to the House Judiciary Committee's impeachment inquiry in 1974 regarding President Richard Nixon, and as counsel to the president during the Clinton Administration in 1993 and 1994.

Mr Nussbaum received a BA from Columbia University in 1958, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and an LLB from Harvard Law School in 1961. He was awarded an honorary LLD from the George Washington University National Law Center in 1993. While at Harvard Law School, he served as notes editor of the Harvard Law Review, and upon graduation was awarded a Harvard University Sheldon Traveling Fellowship. Mr Nussbaum has also been a lecturer at Columbia University Law School.

Mr Nussbaum is admitted to practise in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, where he was vice president from 1984 to 1985, the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Federal Bar Council, where he was president from 1990 to 1992.
