Biography: Insolvency & Restructuring

Harold S Novikoff chairs Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz's restructuring and finance practice group. He specialises in creditors' rights, bankruptcy, debt restructurings, and derivative and financial markets transactions.

Mr Novikoff has represented creditors' committees, groups of major creditors, individual major creditors and acquirers in many major reorganisations and restructurings, and has special expertise in insolvencies involving major players in the financial markets. Among other engagements, he represented the principal lender groups in the Collins & Aikman, Northwest Airlines, Independent Wireless One, 360networks, Budget Rent a Car, Bruno's, World Kitchen, Imperial Home Décor, Long John Silver's, US Home, Walter Industries, and Allis-Chalmers chapter 11 cases; major banks, dealers and creditors in the National Century Financial Enterprises, Kmart, American Business Financial Services, Orange County, Navigator Gas, Revco, Drexel Burnham, Granite Partners and Adler Coleman bankruptcy cases and the KKR Atlantic and Pacific, Axon, Victoria and Ottimo structured investment vehicle restructurings; and the principal lender groups in the Blockbuster, HealthSouth, Looking Glass Networks, Chrysler, Navistar, Varity and Esprit de Corp debt restructurings.

Mr Novikoff is a graduate of Columbia University Law School (JD 1975), where he was a member of the Law Review. He is also a graduate of Cornell University (BS with distinction 1972). Mr Novikoff is a recent chair of the Bankruptcy Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, a conferee of the National Bankruptcy Conference (co-chair of the chapter 11 and capital markets committees), a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, the author of numerous articles and outlines on creditors' rights subjects, a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy and financial markets subjects in continuing legal education programmes, and a contributing author to Collier on Bankruptcy. He has practised for more than 32 years and became a partner at Wachtell Lipton in 1981.
