Biography: Corporate Tax

Mr Nelson is a co-founder and managing partner of McKee Nelson. His practice encompasses all areas of federal taxation, with a special emphasis on partnership taxation and tax controversy and litigation matters. Mr Nelson founded the firm in November 1999. From 1986 to 1988, he served as chief counsel for the Internal Revenue Service, returning to private practice at the end of his appointment.

He is co-author of the treatise Federal Taxation of Partnerships and Partners (3rd edition, 1997), and also co-authored Federal Taxation of Partnerships and Partners: Structuring and Drafting Agreements (2nd edition, 1993), both published by Warren, Gorham & Lamont. Mr Nelson has written articles on tax law for numerous journals and institutes. Mr Nelson is a frequent lecturer at various tax institutes. Mr Nelson received a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1972, where he was editor-in-chief of the Virginia Law Review and was named to the Order of the Coif. He graduated from Mississippi State University with highest honours in 1969.
