Biography: Competition

David Neill is a partner in the antitrust department of Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz, focusing principally on corporate mergers and acquisitions. Mr Neill has represented clients from a broad range of industries before the US Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Reserve Board, including most recently: Unocal in its merger with Chevron, the New York Stock Exchange in its merger with Archipelago, and Thermo Electron in its merger with Fisher Scientific. Mr Neill has represented the buyer or seller in connection with most of the largest bank mergers in US history.

Mr Neill has authored, co-authored, and edited numerous articles and book chapters on a wide range of antitrust issues. He is a member of the antitrust section of the American Bar Association and previously served as vice chairman of the section's financial markets and institutions committee. He has also been a member of the antitrust and trade regulation committee for both the New York City and the New York State Bar Associations.

Mr Neill received a BA degree cum laude from Yale University in 1979, an MPP degree from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley in 1983 and a JD in 1984 from Columbia Law School, where he was a Stone scholar. Mr Neill joined Wachtell Lipton in 1984 and has been a partner of the firm since 1991.
