Biography: Mining

Born in Valparaíso, Chile, Ms Núñez was educated at the University of Chile Law School (LLB, 1991) and at Yale Law School (LLM, 1997).

At the University of Chile Law School, Ms Núñez was awarded the Pedro N Montenegro Award, as the best graduate student of her generation. In 1995, Ms Núñez was also awarded a Fulbright scholarship for continuing graduate studies in the United States. In 1996, she was admitted as an LLM candidate at Harvard Law School, Cornell Law School and Yale Law School, receiving her Masters degree from the latter in 1997.

Ms Núñez worked at Debevoise & Plimpton, New York, from 1997 to 1998. She has been a professor of Economic Law at the University of Chile Law School since 1992.

Ms Núñez is author of Legal Regulation of International Transfer of Technology, published by the United Nations Development Programme, 1991 and of Tolley's International Tax and Investment Service, Chile published by LexisNexis (UK), 2003.

She is also a frequent speaker on mineral resources issues, environmental matters and project financing.

Ms Núñez, founding partner of Núñez, Muñoz & Cía Ltda, has specialised in domestic and international mining transactions for more than 15 years. Her transactional experience includes project financing, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, exploration, operating, sales, options, leases and other agreements. She has acted as counsel of American, Canadian, Brazilian and Chilean mining companies.

Ms Núñez is a member of the International Bar Association where she is the co-chair of its mining committee; she is also trustee at large of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, and member of the Chilean Bar Association, Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, International Mining Professionals Society and Center for International Legal Studies.
