Biography: Aviation
Mr Nath has been identified several times as the leading aviation lawyer in India by various publications. Legal 500 stated "Ravi Nath's esteemed reputation as an aviation expert puts clear blue water between Rajinder Narain & Co and its rivals". He served in 2008 as the chair of the aviation committee of the International Bar Association.During the past few years he has advised on transactions in excess of US$15 billion, relating to cross-border aircraft financing. He regularly advises major international lessors, bankers and manufacturers including, the Export-Import Bank of the United States, Boeing, Barclays Bank, Bank of America, Societe Generale, Citi Bank, BNP Paribas, Merrill Lynch, Airbus, Deutsche Bank, AerCap, ILFC, Aviation Capital Group, GECAS, Aircastle, Babcock & Brown, Embraer, Bombardier, Macquarie, Alafco, Bavaria, Willis, BAE and ECAs across Europe. He is the author of the India chapters in two books: Aircraft Finance: Registration, Security and Enforcement and Aircraft Liens and Detention Rights, both published by Sweet & Maxwell. He is also the co-editor of the book Aircraft Repossession and Enforcement – Practical Aspects, published by Kluwer in two volumes.
He has been involved extensively with the Cape Town Convention and now serves on the International Registry's advisory board and on the legal advisory panel. The Bar Association of India has given him its highest honour. He is co-author with, among others, cabinet minister P Chidambaram, on a book relating to the legal aspects of doing business in India.
He is a partner at Rajinder Narain & Co, also known as RNCLegal, one of India's oldest legal firms. Two of the firm's partners have been chief justices of high courts in India and one a president of the Bar Association. Mr Nath was the president of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association from 2003 to 2004.
