Biography: Arbitration

Gabrielle Nater-Bass is a partner in Homburger's litigation and arbitration practice team.

She studied at the University of Zurich where she graduated in 1994 (lic iur). In 1999, she received an LLM degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. Before joining Homburger in 1997, she worked as a law clerk with a district court. She also practised as an attorney at WilmerHale, Washington, DC and London.

Gabrielle Nater-Bass's practice focuses on international commercial arbitration. Recognised as one of "45 under 45" leading arbitration practitioners and elected one of the "all-female top 30" women of arbitration by the Global Arbitration Review, she has acted as party counsel, sole arbitrator, co-arbitrator, chairperson and legal expert in numerous international arbitration proceedings, both institutional (ICC, Swiss Rules, and others) and ad hoc, which were governed by a variety of procedural and substantive laws. Areas of specialisation include joint ventures, shareholder agreements, M&A disputes, long-term supply contracts, agency and distribution contracts, international commodity sales, energy, telecommunications, and pharmaceuticals.

Gabrielle Nater-Bass is a member of the arbitration committee of the Swiss Chambers' Court of Arbitration and Mediation, the Swiss and Zurich Bar Associations, the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA) (member of the ASA marketing committee and former co-chair of ASA below 40), the London Court of Arbitration, the International Bar Association, the German-American Lawyers' Association, and of the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS).

Gabrielle Nater-Bass is co-author of the commentary on the Swiss Rules of International Arbitration (art. 22 - 25), and has published numerous articles on various topics related to international commercial arbitration, among others "Effects of Foreign Bankruptcy on International Arbitration" (co-author), Austrian Yearbook on International Arbitration 2011; "Class Action Arbitration: A New Challenge?", ASA Bulletin No. 4, 2009; "How to Work with the Swiss Rules: The Counsel's Perspective", The Swiss Rules of International Arbitration – 5 Years of Experience, Swiss Chambers' Court of Arbitration and Mediation, Basel 2009.
