Biography: Competition

Dr Hans Jürgen Meyer-Lindemann is the office managing partner of the Brussels office of Shearman & Sterling. His practice focuses on European and German competition law. He was educated at the universities of Bonn (Dr jur), Geneva, Strasbourg, Coimbra and at New York University (MCJ) and joined Shearman & Sterling in 1992 after he had worked with one of the leading German law firms in Frankfurt and Düsseldorf and a US firm in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a member of the Düsseldorf and New York bars and an associate member of the Brussels bar.

Dr Meyer-Lindemann has handled high profile merger control cases before the European Commission and before national competition authorities, in particular the Gerrman Bundeskartellamt, for clients such as Allianz, Aventis, Axel Springer, Barclays, Billiton, Daimler, Deutsche Bahn, E ON, Nasdaq, Novartis, Scania, Viacom and Wal-Mart, major cartel investigations in many different areas (among others airfreight, flexible packaging, heat stabilisers, decor paper, needles, haberdashery, industrial gases, wall paper and fire hoses) and numerous litigation matters concerning both, public and private enforcement, before local and district courts and the Federal Supreme Court in Germany and the European courts (General Court and European Court of Justice) in Luxembourg.

Dr Meyer-Lindemann has published frequently and speaks regularly on European and German competition law issues. He is a co-author of the Frankfurter Kommentar on German and European competition law and a lecturer on competition law at Heinrich-Heine-University, Düsseldorf.
