Biography: Construction

Dan McMillan co-chairs Jones Day's international construction practice. He represents owners, design professionals and contractors in large construction disputes and in negotiating and drafting contracts for construction projects. In addition to extensive trial and appellate experience, Dan has broad experience with domestic and international ad hoc and administered arbitration, mediation and a variety of hybrid alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

Dan has worked on projects in the United States and throughout the world for clients like Washington Group International, Chevron, Befesa Construcción y Tecnología Ambiental, SA, Genentech, and Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. He has worked on some of the largest and most successful infrastructure projects in the United States, including the $2.4 billion Alameda Corridor, a consolidated rail line linking the ports of Southern California with the transcontinental rail yards near downtown Los Angeles.

A frequent speaker and writer on construction law, Dan's many publications include 'Disputes Review Boards: Key Issues, Recent Case law and Standard Agreements', 25 Construction Lawyer 14 (Spring 2005). He is a member of the Disputes Review Board Foundation, the American Bar Association's forum on the construction industry (steering committee for dispute avoidance and resolution), and Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (executive board). He has the highest rating from Martindale Hubbell (AV), has been named a California Super Lawyer, and is listed by Chambers USA. Dan graduated first in his class from Loyola Law School and first in his class from Loyola Marymount University. He clerked with Chief Judge Charles Clark, United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit (1987 term).
