Mark McConnell represents a broad range of clients in international trade litigation and government policy matters.
Mr McConnell's recent activities in trade litigation include: successful representation of Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Nissan and Toyota in obtaining the sunset of anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders on Corrosion-Resistant Steel from Australia, Canada, France, and Japan; successful defence of Canadian swine producers in the Live Swine from Canada anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations; representation of a broad coalition of major US steel consuming manufacturers in the Hot Rolled Steel sunset review; and representation of the government of the province of Ontario in the ongoing Softwood Lumber from Canada countervailing dispute.
In addition to trade disputes, Mr McConnell is highly experienced in public policy coalitions. He helped create and advise the Coalition of American Steel-Using Manufacturers; advised the Business Coalition for US-China Trade; advised USA Engage, a coalition of leading US businesses and associations seeking to limit the use of US unilateral economic sanctions, and has advised the Diesel Technology Forum, an association of leading diesel manufacturers, refiners and suppliers that promotes technological improvement to reduce engine emissions.
Since joining the firm in 1979, Mr McConnell has remained active in political affairs. He took a leave of absence in 1980 to serve on president-elect Reagan's presidential transition team, and in 1988 served in Senator Robert J Dole's presidential campaign. From 2000 to 2001, Mr McConnell served president-elect George W Bush as a member of the transition advisory committee for the office of the US Trade Representative.
