Biography: Environment

Sharon is co-section head of Vinson & Elkins's administrative and environmental law section. She has handled a wide range of environmental toxic tort litigation at the trial and appellate levels, and has substantial experience with litigation that relates to real estate transactions gone wrong. Ms Mattox has litigated and tried a variety of disputes over remediation and other business damages costs, often involving allegations of fraud in the sale of real property. Another area of litigation experience is with tort claims made by a community alleging damages from the presence of chemicals in the groundwater, soil or air.

Ms Mattox has handled a number of large cases alleging significant property damage. A significant portion of her litigation relates to her experience counselling on administrative regulatory matters in National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), wetlands, endangered species, cultural resources, water rights, flood plains, and coastal zone consistency. Her clients are active in the energy, chemical, real estate, and port of navigation industries. She works with public clients on a wide range of infrastructure projects.

Ms Mattox is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. Her extensive experience has earned her recognition by Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers in environmental law and litigation in 2005-2006; and by The Best Lawyers in America in environmental law between 2005-2007.

Ms Mattox received her BA from Emporia State University in 1974, her PhD from the University of Texas in 1978, and her JD from the University of Texas School of Law (Order of the Coif; Order of the Barristers) in 1981.
