Biography: Environment

Christopher Marraro is a partner with Howrey's global litigation practice group and a senior member of the firm's environmental and tort bio energy practice areas. Mr Marraro is among America's foremost environmental trial attorneys. He specialises in complex litigation and arbitration involving waste disposal, air emissions and toxic substance exposure. Mr Marraro has tried a number of cases that have changed the landscape of American environmental waste law.

Mr Marraro handled the landmark cases of United States et al v Marine Shale Processors Inc et al, which have been the only multi-media environmental enforcement cases ever tried to a federal jury. Recently, Mr Marraro helped broaden the remedies available under the federal waste management law. In ICO v Honeywell International Inc et al, Mr Marraro won an injunction and attorneys fees for his client, WR Grace & Co, that required that a co-defendant excavate and remove over one million tons of hazardous waste from his clients property and backfill with clean fill at no cost to his client.

Mr Marraro is also a leading practitioner in the bio-energy field. He regularly counsels clients on technology licensing and on a wide variety of other legal issues in connection with domestic and international ethanol and biodiesel production.

Mr. Marraro is a former Staff Attorney with the American Petroleum Institute in Washington, DC. He was the former Chairman of the ABA Annual Conference on Environmental Law and the Annual Fall Section Meetings, and is currently chairman of the Energy and Natural Resources Litigation Committee of the Environment, Energy and Resources Section of the ABA. He is a frequent author and has written articles published by the Brookings Institution on such timely subjects as 'Revising the Ozone Standard' and 'Regulating Food Additives and Contaminants'.
