Biography: Competition

Martina Maier joined Howrey as a partner in 2006. Her practice focuses on European and German competition law. Prior to joining Howrey, Ms Maier was co-head of the worldwide EU and competition law practice group at Haarmann Hemmelrath.

Ms Maier advises clients on European, German and French merger control and multi-jurisdictional merger control filings, German and European antitrust law and state aid control. She represents private and public clients before European, German and French authorities. Some of her recent matters include representing Nestlé in its acquisition of the Gerber baby-food business from Novartis before the European Commission. This transaction enabled the creation of the world's leading infant nutrition company. Ms Maier also represented Ford in a formal state aid procedure with respect to the intended acquisition of a Romanian company.

Ms Maier is vice president of the competition law committee of the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA). She is also a member of the Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht (German Antitrust Lawyers' Association), the Association Française d'Etude de la Concurrence (AFEC, French Antitrust Lawyers' Association), the International Bar Association (IBA), and the Association des Anciens Elèves de l'ENA (AAENA). A frequent speaker at seminars and conferences on European, German and French competition law topics, Ms Maier also regularly publishes in these areas.

A native of Germany, Ms Maier is fluent in German, English and French and is a member of the Düsseldorf, Brussels and Paris Bars.
