Bertrand has extensive experience representing clients before the European Commission, the OFT and the Competition Commission. Recently he has advised Santander on its acquisition of parts of the banking business of RBS; and GlaxoSmithKline on its acquisition of brands from UCB and its joint venture with Pfizer. He advised Asda on its acquisition of Netto UK; and Thomas Cook on its joint venture with the Co-operative Group and the Midlands Co-operative Society which was referred to the Competition Commission using the fast track procedure and subsequently cleared unconditionally.
He continues to advise British Airways in relation to the European Commission investigation into alleged cartel activity in the provision of air freight (cargo) services; the OFT's criminal and civil investigations into alleged cartel activity involving passenger fuel surcharges on long-haul flights; and in respect of private actions relating to the cargo investigation. He advised Asda before the Competition Commission on its market inquiry into grocery retailing in the UK and on the OFT's investigation into dairy products, including representing Asda before the CAT; and Japan Tobacco (Gallaher) on the OFT's investigation into the retail pricing of tobacco products.
