Biography: Banking

Janet Looi was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1986. She has an extensive corporate and M&A practice and has been named as a leading lawyer in this area by Chambers Asia and Partners in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. She is currently primarily engaged in corporate advisory work, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, cross border transactions, joint ventures and government tenders and contracts. Janet has advised numerous multinational foreign corporations on establishment of their businesses in Malaysia from the start up stage.

In addition to her corporate advisory practice, Janet has an active environmental practice, which includes having negotiated on behalf of a project proponent with the government of Malaysia, the 15 year exclusivity granted to the project proponent, for the transportation, treatment and disposal of scheduled wastes and the operation of the first integrated scheduled wastes treatment system for Peninsular Malaysia in 1995. She also acted as legal adviser for the Integrated River Basin Management project, a joint project of the governments of Malaysia and Denmark, which culminated in the drafting of a Water Resources Bill for one of the states in peninsular Malaysia.
