Biography: Product Liability

Gary Long is chair of the firm's national product liability litigation group and a former member of the firm's executive committee. He has extensive experience in the litigation of product liability claims in state and federal courts, including individual claims and class actions.

Mr Long has served as national coordinating counsel in various types of product liability claims, including tobacco, alcoholic beverage, pharmaceutical and firearms litigation. Mr Long has served as national counsel in numerous class actions in state and federal courts throughout the country, and has played a key role in coordinating the defence of these cases. He has argued successfully against class certification in many of these cases, at both the trial and appellate levels. He has also successfully tried class actions to jury verdict.

Mr Long is a member of the American Bar Association, the Product Liability Advisory Council, the Defense Research Institute, the Missouri Bar and the Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers. He is listed in The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers, The Lawdragon 500 Leading Litigators in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the Midwest, Expert Guides: Guide to the World's Leading Product Liability Lawyers, The Best Lawyers in America, The Legal 500 US and Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers. He has been a guest speaker at legal education seminars on complex litigation and litigation coordination issues. Mr Long received his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri, Columbia School of law in 1976, where he was an editor of the Missouri Law Review and a member of Order of the Coif.

Mr Long is admitted to practise before the state courts of Missouri, the US District Court for the Western District of Missouri, the Supreme Court of the United States and the US Court of Appeals for the Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, and Ninth Circuits.
