Biography: Mining

Derek Linfield manages the London office of Stikeman Elliott London. He has many years of experience in the London market, advising an international clientele on equity financings, exchange listings, public M&A and corporate reorganisations. In addition, he regularly advises international banks on Canadian law affecting international financings. A large portion of Mr Linfield's recent experience has involved M&A, equity-finance transactions and stock exchange listings for natural resource companies. An adviser to both public and private companies, and highly experienced in cross-border transactions, Mr Linfield formerly worked with the Ontario Securities Commission (Canada's most influential securities regulator) and with the London office of Clifford Chance, a leading UK law firm. He is a graduate of McGill University (LLB and MBA, 1988) and Memorial University (BSc, 1980, BA (Ed) 1978). Mr Linfield is a director of the Canada/UK Chamber of Commerce, chairman for the Foundation of Canadian Studies in the UK and chairman of the Canada Day Committee in London. He is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the International Bar Association.
