Biography: Mining

David Lancaster is the senior partner at Webber Wentzel Bowens and has been practising commercial law for more than 20 years. David commenced his articles with the firm in 1984, was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 1986 and was appointed to partner in 1989. He holds BA and LLB degrees as well as a higher diploma in tax law from the University of the Witwatersrand.

David's areas of specialisation include aviation finance and related aviation matters, structured finance, banking, privatisations and restructuring of state assets, general commercial law, tourism and development law. He was nominated in 2005 by the International Who's Who of Aviation Lawyers as one of the leading lawyers in this area in South Africa.

David was the head of the aviation team, and was the head of the firm's corporate services department, until being appointed senior partner on 1 March 2006. He is also a member of the management board, the finance committee and is the chair of the transformation committee of the firm. David is a trustee of the Makuleke Development Trust and honorary pro bono legal adviser to the Makuleke community.
