Biography: Competition

Michelle Lally is a partner of Osler Hoskin & Harcourt LLP and a member of the firm's executive committee. She has been recognised as a recommended Canadian antitrust practitioner in a number of domestic and international publications. Michelle has been recognised by Lexpert as one of the "Top 40 under 40" in legal practice in Canada, as one of Canada's "Top 15 Women to Watch" and most recently as one of Canada's "Litigation Lawyers to Watch". Michelle has extensive experience in all areas of competition law, with particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, cartels, bid rigging and the application of the Competition Act to distribution and pricing practices.

Michelle has been involved in prominent and industry-transforming mergers including CanWest MediaWorks proposed acquisition of Alliance Atlantis, Eastman Kodak's acquisition of Creo, Coors' merger with Molson, Moore Wallace's merger with RR Donnelley, and JP Morgan's merger with Bank One. She has also been involved in a number of high-profile unsolicited takeover bids, including on behalf of Telus Corporation in connection with its bid for Microcell, and Icahn in connection with its bid for Fairmont Hotels.

Michelle represents targets in the Competition Bureau investigations (civil and criminal) including in the bureau's investigations into the system access fee charged by the mobile telephone companies, advertising claims by cigarette manufacturers, and certain practices in the motion picture distribution industry.

Michelle is a member of the executive committee of the CBA's National Competition Law Section and a member of the ABA's antitrust law section. Michelle holds an LLM from Osgoode Hall, an LLB from the University of Western Ontario and a BA Honours from Queen's University.
