Matthew is managing partner of the China offices (Hong Kong and Beijing) of Bird & Bird. He specialises in intellectual property law and advises on all aspects of IP, both contentious and non-contentious.

Matthew advises on major IP litigation in Hong Kong and, in an advisory capacity, in the People's Republic of China. In recent years he has focused particularly on patent litigation for large multinationals. He also provides commercial IP advice to clients in a number of industry sectors including life sciences, electronics, consumer products, apparel, retail and music.

Matthew has a particular interest in the life sciences sector. His work covers contentious matters (patent, trademark and unfair competition litigation) and commercial life sciences work including clinical trials agreements, joint promotion and joint marketing agreements, collaboration and development agreements.

Matthew is a panelist for the Hong Kong office of the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre and has rendered decisions on top-level domain name disputes. Matthew is recognised as one of the leading lawyers in the field of life sciences and IP in Hong Kong and China, and is listed as a leading individual in numerous legal directories including the Asia-Pacific Legal 500, PLC Which Lawyer, Asia Law Leading Lawyers and Chambers Global.
