Biography: Competition

Mark Kovner is a partner in Kirkland & Ellis LLP's Washington, DC office and a senior member of the firm's competition and antitrust practice group. He specialises in complex antitrust litigation and US and international deal clearance work, representing Fortune 250 companies and private equity firms in M&A clearances, section 1 and section 2 litigation, class action defence, and distribution counselling. He has special expertise in IP/antitrust intersection issues, consumer products, and the pharmaceutical industry.

His antitrust trial successes are featured in The American Lawyer, 1 December 2000, and Legal Times, 23 October 2000. Mr Kovner has been an adjunct professor of antitrust law at the Georgetown University Law Center since 2001 and was twice elected to the DC bar antitrust and consumer law section steering committee. He served on the ABA antitrust section special pharmaceuticals task force in 2001, receiving an ABA award for his contributions.

Mr Kovner is included in Global Competition Review's 2004 list of "40 under 40" prominent international antitrust lawyers, one of four US lawyers listed. He writes and speaks often on antitrust topics.

Mr Kovner holds his JD from Georgetown University Law School, cum laude, and his BA in economics with honours from Brandeis University.
