Biography: Product Liability
Mr Kohn joined Reed Smith on January 1, 2003, when the firm merged with Crosby, Heafey, Roach & May. The former head of Crosby Heafey's products liability group, he was the leader of the Reed Smith Products Liability Practice Group from January 1, 2003 through June 30, 2007.After joining Crosby Heafey in 1977, Mr Kohn concentrated his practice on civil litigation with an emphasis in pharmaceutical and medical devices, product liability, and general business litigation. He has represented numerous of the world's largest medical device and pharmaceutical companies in litigation involving diet drugs, DES, vaccines, antibiotics, surgical shunts, orthopedic implants, silicone gel breast implants, mechanical heart valves, orthopedic bone screws, and surgical sutures, staples, clip appliers and trocars. Serving as regional and national counsel, he has tried individual personal injury cases that have received nationwide media coverage and has also represented clients in class actions and multi-district litigation.
Mr Kohn is a member of the Defense Research Institute and has served as a member of the Drug and Medical Device Litigation Steering Committee for more than 10 years. He is also a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC), and is former chair of the IADC Class Action Committee. Mr Kohn has served as a court appointed arbitrator in more than 40 cases.
Mr Kohn earned his JD from the University of San Francisco (1974); his MBA in Finance from the University of California at Los Angeles (1967); and his BA also from the University of California at Los Angeles (1965).
