Biography: Commercial Arbitration

Jean Kalicki is counsel in Arnold & Porter's litigation department, specialising in international arbitration. She has represented sovereign governments including Hungary, El Salvador and Panama, as well as the United Nations and private corporations on four continents, in a wide variety of disputes, including investment treaty arbitrations before ICSID and under the UNCITRAL Rules and commercial arbitrations before the ICC, AAA/ICDR and other institutions. Ms Kalicki has also served as an arbitrator (sole, chair and panel member) in a variety of domestic and international disputes. She has been selected as a leader in the field by Chambers USA and The Legal 500.

Ms Kalicki is chair of the DC bar's international dispute resolution committee and a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration, in addition to numerous other arbitration associations, advisory boards and task forces. She is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center and a faculty expert at American University's international arbitration programme, teaching courses on advocacy in international arbitration and investor-state arbitration. She is a frequent speaker on international arbitration topics and the author of several articles, most recently on the 'fair and equitable treatment' standard in investment arbitration and on the prospects for investment arbitration in Brazil.

She graduated from Harvard University in 1986 (BA, summa cum laude) and received a JD (magna cum laude) from Harvard Law School in 1989, where she was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. From 1991 until 1998 Ms Kalicki was associated with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in New York and Washington, DC. She has been with Arnold & Porter since 1999.
