Robert T Joseph, past chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Antitrust Law, has more than 35 years' experience in antitrust and trade regulation litigation and counselling. A graduate of the University of Michigan Law School (JD, 1971) and a member of the Michigan Law Review, he joined Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP after serving as a staff attorney with the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Competition from 1971 to 1976. Mr Joseph's antitrust experience has involved cases and counselling with respect to the full range of antitrust subjects. The issues in these matters frequently have been complex, covering a wide variety of substantive law and procedural litigation questions.

Mr Joseph has been actively involved in major price-fixing cases. He has represented franchisers and other suppliers in a number of antitrust disputes (including class actions) and has counselled them on the legal implications of their distribution strategies, on issues such as tying, resale price maintenance and price discrimination. Mr Joseph regularly lectures at ABA Section of Antitrust Law and other programmes. He also has written extensively on antitrust issues. Sonnenschein's competition and trade regulation practice consists of more than 25 lawyers in its nine offices. The strength of the group's practice derives from the lawyers' practical experience and training. Some of its attorneys have worked for the US enforcement agencies.
