Biography: Management Labour and Employment

Carl serves as co-head of Vinson & Elkins' employment litigation and labour section. He has more than 30 years' experience representing management in employment, ERISA and labour-related trial work (with an emphasis on class and collective actions) and counselling, and he has been lead attorney on a wide range of cases.

Carl's clients include companies in the energy services, refining and petrochemical, high-tech, manufacturing, financial services, pharmaceutical, forest products, construction and engineering, and insurance industries. He represents clients in state and federal courts, as well as before various federal and state agencies, including the National Labour Relations Board, US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, US Department of Labour's office of federal contract compliance programmes, Occupational Safety and Health Commission, and Texas Commission on Human Rights.

Additionally, Carl has been general counsel of the Texas Employment Law Council, an organisation of Fortune 500-type employers, since its founding in 1984. He is a Fellow in the College of Labour and Employment Attorneys, and is a director of the American Employment Law Council.

Carl is certified in labour and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialisation. As a result of his work on behalf of clients, Carl has been recognised by The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers since 1997, Chambers USA as a leader in employment and labour law since 2003, The Best Lawyers in America since 1989, and The National Law Journal as "One of the Best Employment Litigators in the Nation".

Carl received his BA from Baylor University (with honours) in 1971, and his JD (with honours) from Harvard Law School in 1974.
