Biography: Product Liability

Alfonso Iglesia is a partner and director of the civil liability and construction practice of Cuatrecasas, Madrid. He is a member of the international steering committee of the alliance between Cuatrecasas and its associated firms in Latin America, and is also the coordinator of its arbitration practice group.

Mr Iglesia specialises in tort and product liability, construction and engineering, as well as litigation and arbitration. He has extensive experience directing domestic and international legal and arbitration proceedings.

Mr Iglesia has been involved in some of the most relevant recent cases of tort and product liability in Spain. He defended a tobacco multinational in the class and recoupment actions filed against it; the owner of a skyscraper in Madrid which caught fire; and a logistic multinational company which was the lessee of a logistic complex which also caught fire.

Alfonso Iglesia is recognised as one of Spain's foremost specialists in litigation and product liability, ranked as one of the leading individuals by Chambers Global Guide, European Legal Experts (Legal 500), Guide to the World's Leading Litigation Lawyers and PLC Cross-border Dispute Resolution Handbook, among others.

Mr Iglesia is assistant professor of civil liability at the Antonio de Nebrija University of Madrid. He is also a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars on civil liability and construction law.

Mr Iglesia obtained his law degree from the Complutense University of Madrid, CEU San Pablo, in 1987, and was admitted to the Madrid Bar Association in 1989. He speaks Spanish and English.
