Biography: Business Crime Defence

J R Hobbs received his BA in 1978 from the University of Kansas and a JD in 1981 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He is listed in Naef & Smith's The Best Lawyers in America and the National Directory of Criminal Lawyers in the field of criminal law; the Best of the Bar (2002 to present), Kansas City Business Journal; and The International Who's Who of Business Crime Lawyers (from 2003 to present). He is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers; a Fellow in the International Academy of Trial Lawyers; a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates; a Fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers; and an adjunct professor at University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Law. He is past president of the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; a member of the ABA and the Missouri Bar.

Mr Hobbs received the Lon O Hocker Trial Lawyer Award, 1989, and KCMBA First Annual Congenial Counselor Award, 1998. He received the Practitioner of the Year award by the UMKC Law School Alumni Association in 2006, and was formerly president of the Western District of Missouri/Eastern District of Kansas chapter of ABOTA. He is a shareholder in the law firm Wyrsch, Hobbs & Mirakian, PC and is engaged in the practice of criminal defence, particularly in the representation of white-collar criminal, civil fraud and commercial defence cases.
