Biography: Management Labour and Employment

Barry A Hartstein is a partner in Morgan Lewis's labour and employment practice, also serving as the Chicago office practice group leader. He also serves on his practice's national leadership team.

Mr Hartstein has represented employers in a broad range of employment law matters for more than 30 years. Mr Hartstein's practice focuses on employment litigation in both federal and state courts and before various administrative agencies and arbitrations. He has defended employers around the country in both individual and class action claims.

Mr Hartstein is a frequent author, commentator and lecturer on workplace issues and has authored numerous publications. Most recently he served as contributing editor and contributing author for Getting the Deal Through's new international publication, Labour and Employment 2006, and he has continued in this role for the 2007 publication.

For many years, Mr Hartstein has served in a leadership role in the American Bar Association's section of labour and employment law and as national co-chair of the equal employment opportunity committee, the largest committee of the ABA's labour and employment law section. Mr Hartstein also has served in a leadership role with Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations and as a member of the board of directors for the school's Alumni Association, and has assumed the role of president of the Association.

Mr Hartstein received his JD from Northwestern University School of Law (1976) and his BS from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University (1973). He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, and he is also a fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.
