David 'Skip' Hartquist is widely recognised for his expertise in the international trade arena. Mr Hartquist is leading the private sector's battle against an undervalued Chinese currency that forces many US producers to compete in an unfair trade environment. As counsel to the China Currency Coalition, he tirelessly advocates for a legislative solution to the problem of Chinese currency manipulation and works to bring the issue to the forefront of public awareness. Skip is heavily involved in maintaining the metals industry's competitiveness in the global economy, serving as general or trade counsel to numerous national trade associations and corporations on legal and political issues.
More broadly, Skip is a defender of all domestic producers as executive director of the committee to support US Trade Laws. The organisation consists of companies, trade associations, labour unions, workers and individuals committed to ensuring that US trade laws provide for fair competition between US and foreign producers engaged in international trade. Mr Hartquist's counselling and litigation experience also includes serving as an adviser to the US government in connection with trade negotiations with China, the European Community, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and other nations, as well as the Doha Round of WTO negotiations.
Mr Hartquist received his BS from the University of Southern California in 1963 and his JD from Harvard University in 1966. He is admitted to practise in the District of Columbia, the State of California, the US Court of International Trade, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the US Supreme Court.
