Biography: Corporate Governance

Hisashi Hara is a chairman of Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu. His principal practices include a variety of transnational and domestic transactions with emphasis on real estate acquisitions, development, financing and securitisation, M&A, joint ventures and corporate restructuring.

Mr Hara graduated from the University of Tokyo (LLB) in 1972 and joined Nagashima & Ohno in 1975. He received an LLM from Harvard Law School in 1980 and trained at Arnold & Porter's Washington, DC office from 1980 to 1981. He became a partner in 1983. In 1991 he became a managing partner of Nagashima & Ohno, and a managing partner of Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu in 2000, and since January 2006 he has been the chairman of the firm.

Mr Hara has been a member of the Dai-ichi Tokyo Bar Association since 1975 and practised law for nearly thirty years. He was a member of the management committee of the University of Tokyo from 2006 to 2008. He is fluent in both English and Japanese. He is the author of the publications Plant Export Contracts, Modern Law Series, Volume 8 (1983) and Internationalization of Commercial Activity and Transactions, Commercial Law Jurist, Volume 857 (1986).
