Biography: Insolvency & Restructuring

Susan Grundy is a partner and chair of the firm's restructuring and insolvency group. Her practice emphasises the commercial aspects of insolvency, including work-outs, debt restructuring, mergers and acquisitions transactions involving businesses in financial difficulty, bankruptcy and security enforcement. She has extensive experience in insolvency proceedings of all kinds in domestic and cross-border cases on behalf of both debtors and creditors. She also regularly provides advice on insolvency issues in structuring transactions. Susan has also been active in insolvency law reform and is a member of a working group of industry experts advising Industry Canada in connection with proposed amendments to Canadian insolvency legislation.

Susan has been recognised as a leading insolvency and corporate restructuring lawyer in many publications, including Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business, The Best Lawyers in Canada and The Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada. In 2003, she was named by Lexpert magazine as one of the top 25 women business lawyers in Canada.

Susan is a director of the Insolvency Institute of Canada and the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, and is a former chair of the insolvency subsection of the Canadian Bar Association (Ontario). She is co-author of The Insolvency Laws of Canada (Juris Publications, 2006). She has written and spoken extensively on insolvency issues and has been an instructor at Osgoode Hall Law School and the University of Toronto.
