Biography: Franchise

Richard Greenstein is a partner in the franchise and distribution law practice group in DLA Piper's Atlanta office. Mr Greenstein offers substantial experience in a wide range of areas that affect franchisers and distributors, including mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, bankruptcy, corporate finance and securities.

Mr Greenstein concentrates his practice on the strategic development and growth of domestic and international franchise programmes and the acquisition and sale of franchise companies. He negotiates and prepares franchise and sub-franchise agreements, represents franchisors in mergers and acquisitions, counsels franchisers on compliance with US and international law, and assists in franchise terminations, franchisee relations, and a wide variety of other business matters. His clients range from entrepreneurs and start-ups to noteworthy franchised businesses in a variety of industries, such as quick-serve restaurants, lodging and retail. Mr Greenstein also has experience in technology licensing, technology protection and general corporate and business transactions. Mr Greenstein regularly speaks before bar and business groups about franchising.

For the years 2002-2007, Mr Greenstein was selected for inclusion in the publication The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers. Mr Greenstein has also been selected for inclusion in the publication The Best Lawyers in America for 2007 and 2008. He has also been selected as a "Georgia super lawyer" by Law & Politics Magazine and Atlanta Magazine for the years 2005-2007 and for Who's Who Legal: Georgia for 2007. Mr Greenstein graduated from the University of Maryland in 1977. His law degree is from the University of Miami in Florida where he graduated with honours. Prior to entering private practice, Mr Greenstein served in various capacities in the legal department of IBM Corporation from September 1980 until December 1986. He is admitted to practise in Georgia, New York and Florida.
