Biography: Product Liability

Stuart M Gordon is the founding partner of Gordon and Rees LLP. His principal core of practice is pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device litigation. As one of the principal trial attorneys and negotiators in the firm, he has tried more than 50 jury and non-jury cases to verdict (all but one of which he has won) and has mediated and settled several thousand cases. He has also acted as the managing partner of the firm, guiding it from a small firm of three attorneys to a dynamic civil litigation and business practice firm of over 300 lawyers.

He has been the lead negotiator on the West Coast for Wyeth in the last nine years in the fen/phen litigation and has negotiated settlements of several thousand cases for his client. He has also helped to manage the litigation throughout the country. Mr Gordon has also served as national and regional counsel for several major pharmaceutical companies, both as trial counsel and settlement counsel. He has a tremendous record of success in both of those areas. He leads a practice group that has been retained as national and regional counsel in coordinated actions, as well as local counsel in single and multi-party litigation involving such products as Pondimin and Redux, Premarin, Prempro, PPA-containing medications, Thimerosal, Reglan, Cordarone, Bextra, Celebrex, needles and syringes, Perclose devices, breast implants, dietary supplements and a wide variety of other pharmaceutical products.

Mr Gordon received his AB from the University of California at Berkeley in 1962 and his JD from the Boalt Hall of Law in 1965, where he was president of the Student Body and won the Corpus Juris Secundum award as outstanding student in his class.

Mr Gordon is a member of the San Francisco, California and American Bar Associations. He is a member of the Northern California Association of Defense Counsel, and the International Association of Defense Counsel, where he was a member of the board of trustees of the Charitable Foundation and a past chairman of the Casualty Committee. He was honoured by California Lawyer with the Clay Award for distinguished work in civil litigation, and the Wheeler Oakes award as outstanding alumnus of Boalt Hall.
