Profile: Kevin A Gaynor

His practice covers all areas of environmental law and litigation at the federal and state levels. This includes defending environmental enforcement actions, both civil and criminal, counseling on regulatory compliance, litigating against other companies over environmental indemnities, supervising resolution of environmental issues as part of complex business transactions and dealing with the Federal government and Congress on environmental policy matters. Recently, he was lead counsel of the lead case in the largest enforcement initiative the US Environmental Protection Agency has ever undertaken, which he resolved on highly favourable terms for his client. He also mediates large environmental disputes.

Mr Gaynor's government service includes the US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Justice, where he was assistant chief for environmental enforcement. He is a frequent writer and lecturer on environmental law and has been listed in Chambers USA's America's Leading Business Lawyers, in Environmental and Euromoney's Guide to the World's Leading Environmental Lawyers. He is former chair of the District of Columbia Bar's Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Section, and has chaired numerous committees for the Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Section of the American Bar Association. He is a 1970 graduate of the University of Connecticut and a 1973 graduate of University of Virginia School of Law.
