He acts as local counsel to several international oil and gas companies concerned with upstream exploration and production in Trinidad and Tobago and advises on petroleum legislation, exploration and production and other licence and production sharing contracts.
He is also interested in foreign investment downstream in major industrial projects which often require joint venture agreements, the incorporation or registration of project companies, government agreements, gas supply contracts, plant leases and way leaves, and miscellaneous approvals from the competent authorities.
Similarly, projects in liquefied natural gas, iron and steel, free zones, transportation, processing and export of petroleum and petroleum products and miscellaneous M&A work involving petroleum licences or production sharing contracts, companies or businesses that supply consumer and industrial products, and oil and gas joint ventures.
Mr Fitzwilliam is a graduate of the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario (BA Honours, 1975), the University of the West Indies (LLB Hons, 1977) and the Hugh Wooding Law School (Legal Education Certificate of Merit, 1979). He is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators and is recognised in the corporate/commercial Trinidad & Tobago section of Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers. His department recently won, Finance Monthly's 'Oil and Gas Law Firm of the Year' and DealMakers' 'Oil and Gas Law Firm of the Year', both 2011, Trinidad & Tobago.
