Kenneth P Ewing is a partner in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he leads the firm's antitrust practice group. Mr Ewing regularly advises US and non-US companies regarding mergers and joint ventures, often working closely with Steptoe's Brussels office. He also handles defences of US and multi-jurisdictional cartel investigations and civil damages suits. Mr Ewing's practice has given him substantial experience in cargo and passenger air transportation, express package delivery, trucking, pharmaceuticals, various specialty and industrial chemicals, dairy and other food products, travel reservation systems, gas and oil pipelines, medical equipment, telecommunications services and equipment, and electric and gas utility services, among other industries. He also serves as antitrust counsel to trade associations and lectures frequently on antitrust compliance, including in an international context.
Mr Ewing is active in the antitrust section of the American Bar Association, having held leadership positions on its books and treatises committee, the editorial board for the flagship treatise Antitrust Law Developments (6th), and the mergers and acquisitions committee. Mr Ewing also serves on the board of directors and as secretary of the Washington Institute of Foreign Affairs.
A graduate cum laude of Michigan Law School, where he was a contributing editor of the Michigan Law Review, Mr Ewing clerked for Judge Paul V Niemeyer of the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and worked as a visiting foreign associate in the Düsseldorf office of Bruckhaus Westrick Stegemann prior to joining Steptoe in 1992. He is fluent in German and reads French.
