Biography: Corporate Tax

Doug Ewens QC is a partner of McCarthy Tétrault, practising in the tax group in our Calgary office.

Mr Ewens is past-chair of the Canadian Tax Foundation and a member of the executive committee. In addition, he is a member of the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society, Canadian Bar Association, International Bar Association, International Fiscal Association, Law Society of Alberta and Law Society of Upper Canada.

Mr Ewens obtained his LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1969. He was called to the Ontario bar in 1971 and the Alberta bar in 1981. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1990.

Mr Ewens was named in the March 2006 International Tax Review as one of the top 10 tax advisers (one of three Canadians) who influence the choice of outside firms by in-house tax directors in North America. He also appears in all editions of Lexpert's Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, and the 2007 edition of Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers, in the area of tax law.
