Biography: Product Liability

John Evans is a partner in the global litigation group in Howrey LLP's London office. He is recognised internationally as a product liability defence lawyer, has extensive experience of wider product stewardship issues, is one of the most experienced practitioners in the UK in proactive and pre-emptive issues (or risk) management and is a former board member of the International Association of Defence Counsel.

Mr Evans has successfully defended cases involving injury allegedly resulting from the use of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, tobacco, food packaging and other products; or exposure to industrial chemicals, radiation, bacteria, asbestos, industrial effluent (including dioxins), noise and vibration. He has also been involved in 'instant disaster' instructions relating to catastrophic rail and air crashes, and has worked on a proactive and pre-emptive basis on risk management issues pertaining to national gas pipeline networks and oil and gas installations operating in the offshore drilling environment.

Outside of this specialisation, Mr Evans' background lies in mainstream business litigation and he has always maintained a varied caseload including, for example, warranty and valuation disputes, judicial review, cutting-edge multinational insolvency proceedings, cases embracing complex issues of private and public international law, high-profile and high-value banking and finance litigation and the implementation of international strategies to ring-fence assets pending resolution of the underlying substantive claims.
