Axel Epe, partner in the Düsseldorf office since 1981, has specialised in mergers and acquisitions and corporate law. Since April 2006 he works part of his time from the Munich office as well.
His recent work includes advising on E.ON's acquisition of Ruhrgas AG through a number of transactions from its former shareholders BP plc, RAG AG, ExxonMobile, Shell, ThyssenKrupp and so on, and the sale of VEBA Oel AG including Aral AG to BP plc; advising on E.ON's divestment of Viterra AG, its commercial and residential property division (Germany's largest residential property owner) in a dual-track procedure to Deutsche Annington (Terra-Firma); Karstadt Quelle AG's sale of its property portfolio (department stores, logistic centres, etc) to a joint venture with Whitehall Funds (Goldman Sachs); acquisition of the Diagnostic Business of Bayer AG by Siemens AG; Linde AG's merger with the BOC Group plc; divestment of MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AG by MAN AG; and MAN's (aborted) bid for Scania AB.
Axel is a co-author on corporate compliance in one of the most renowned German textbooks on the subject (Hauschka, Corporate Compliance) and co-editor of the legal journal CCZ Corporate Compliance Zeitschrift, Zeitschrift der Haftungsvermeidung im Unternehmen, Beck-Verlag (starting January 2008).
Axel has studied law at the Universities of Tübingen and Munich and holds a Doctor of Law (Dr iur) from the University of Tübingen. From 2000 until 2004 he served as co-head of the firm's corporate practice.
