Stephen L Drymer is a partner of Ogilvy Renault and co-chair of the firm's arbitration and ADR practice. He specialises in domestic and international arbitration and ADR, regularly acting as counsel in international commercial and investment disputes and advising on arbitration and other dispute resolution procedures. He has acted in disputes in the manufacturing, petrochemical, financial services, IT, construction, transportation, energy and telecommunication industries, among others.
Mr Drymer also advises and represents domestic and foreign clients, government and private, and has extensive experience in the resolution of public international disputes, including boundary delimitations and the negotiation of treaties. He was a negotiator for Canada in the renewal of the Canada-US Pacific Salmon Treaty and counsel for Canada in the mediation of disputes under that treaty, and is currently an adviser to the Secretary General of the United Nations and mediator in a maritime delimitation dispute between two African countries. Mr Drymer is also particularly active in the resolution of sport disputes before the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada and the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.
In January 2006 Mr Drymer was named by Global Arbitration Review as one of the world's leading international arbitration lawyers, and he is recognised as a leading practitioner in many other directories.
In addition to various professional associations, Mr Drymer is a member of the LCIA, the ICC Arbitration Committee of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (and a member of the roster of Canadian ICC arbitrators), the IBA Task Force responsible for the IBA Guidelines on conflicts of interest in international arbitrations and the ICC Task Force on the New York Convention (rapporteur for Canada).
