Mr Dimock is trademark counsel to many multinational companies, and has appeared as counsel in many precedent-setting trademark cases that include: Toyota v Lexus involving famous marks, Pestco v Orkin concerning the law of passing off, Remington v Philips relating to functional trademarks, Lego v Mega Bloks involving the scope and constitutionality of the statutory tort of passing-off, Big Brothers v Big Sisters on official marks, Pardhan v Coca Cola concerning grey marketing, Ralph Lauren v US Polo Association on design mark confusion, BMW v Nissan relating to initial interest confusion and A&W v McDonalds on the issue of reverse confusion. Mr Dimock is well respected by his peers, and recognised as one of the premier intellectual property litigators in Canada.
Mr Dimock attended law school at Queen's University, where he also obtained a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and engineering (with honours) in 1971. Mr Dimock is also a professional engineer.
He has written and lectured extensively in the intellectual property area. He teaches a LLM graduate level course on remedies in intellectual property at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University. He has spoken and presented papers at conferences and seminars sponsored by various groups, including AIPLA, LES and ABA. He is also on INTA's panel of neutrals for Canada.
Mr Dimock is the editor or co-author of several books and publications including Intellectual Property Disputes: Resolutions and Remedies; Bullen & Leake & Jacobs, Canadian Precedents of Pleadings intellectual property chapter; Canadian Marketing Law Handbook, and I Thought of That! A Practical Guide to Patents, Trademarks, and Copyright. He is the editor-in-chief of The Federated Press IP Journal and on the editorial board of the CCH Canadian Commercial Law Guide. Mr Dimock is a Fellow of IPIC, and a member of the CBA, ABA, and IBA.
