Joe Dilg currently serves as managing partner of Vinson & Elkins. Joining the firm in 1976, Mr Dilg built a practice focused on domestic and international business transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and financings, particularly in the domestic and international energy business. Since becoming managing partner in 2002, Mr Dilg has led the firm's multi-pronged growth strategy that includes talent management, global expansion, and continued US growth.

Understanding V&E's competitive future rests on attracting, developing, and retaining lawyers of the highest caliber, during Mr Dilg's tenure as Managing Partner the firm has advanced its industry-leading women's initiative, and has significantly enhanced its diversity and associate development programs. Anticipating increasing globalisation, particularly in the energy industry where V&E has a preeminent reputation, under Mr Dilg's leadership the firm has established offices in Dubai, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Tokyo. Mr Dilg has also invested a significant amount of his personal time building the firm's New York office, strengthening both V&E's international and national practices.

Mr Dilg places personal emphasis on community involvement wherever V&E lawyers practise. He serves as a director for the Business Committee for the Arts Inc, and serves on the boards of the Houston Arts Alliance and the Greater Houston Partnership. Mr Dilg has been consistently recognised by Chambers Global as a leading lawyer in energy law, and since its initiation in 2003, Chambers USA has recognised him as a leading lawyer in corporate, energy, and natural resources law.

Mr Dilg obtained his BA in economics from Southern Methodist University in 1973 and his JD with high honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 1976.
