Trade and Customs

Biography: Trade & Customs

Fabrizio Di Gianni has been a partner of Van Bael & Bellis since 1998. He graduated in law in 1987 and obtained two Masters degrees in International Law (College of Europe, 1989; Georgetown University, 1995). He was admitted to the Rome Bar in 1991 and to pleading before the Italian Supreme Court in 2003.

Since joining Van Bael & Bellis in 1990, Fabrizio Di Gianni has practised international and European trade law and has assisted a wide spectrum of clients (governments, associations of industries, associations of companies, producers and importers) in trade-related matters involving WTO, EC and third countries' trade legislation.

Fabrizio Di Gianni has represented clients involved in the major EC anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and safeguard investigations. His activities have focused on representing the interests of clients in all the stages of the procedure before the European Commission. He also advises clients in other EC trade-related matters, such as marks of origin and customs investigations.

Fabrizio Di Gianni appears regularly before the EC courts in cases involving the trade legislation. His litigation experience in trade-related matters in the last years has included both actions for annulment of EC decisions and actions for recovery of damages.

Furthermore, he advises and assists governments and associations with regard to WTO law, and has represented companies involved in trade investigations initiated by countries outside the EU.

Fabrizio Di Gianni is a co-author of Van Bael & Bellis' fourth edition of Anti-Dumping and other Trade Protection Laws of the EC, one of the leading treatises in WTO and EC trade law, and has written several articles in the field of trade law. He is often invited to speak at international conferences and seminars focusing on WTO and EC trade law.
