Biography: Corporate Governance

Eduardo de Alba has been with Arias, Fábrega & Fábrega since 1975. He became a partner in 1984 and is a member of its executive committee.

Mr de Alba's practice extends to public and private contracts, mergers and acquisitions, securities, corporate law, utilities regulation, oil production and distribution, media and communications, arbitration and estate planning. Among the many important transactions in which he has been lead counsel or had primary participation are the successful 1991 to 1992 negotiations for a new US$77 million concession contract to modernise the Chevron Texaco owned refining facilities, the negotiations and international commercial arbitration proceedings to resolve disputes arising from its breach, and the 2002 settlement of the dispute. He was lead Panamanian counsel on corporate matters to Panamco, in its 1993 full registration and listing in the NYSE, settling disputes with minority shareholders, completing numerous acquisitions of regional Coke bottlers and its 2003 US$3.6 billion merger with Femsa.

He graduated from Georgetown University (AB 1972) and Louisiana State University Law Centre (JD 1975).
