Biography: Commercial Litigation

William B Dawson is co-head of litigation at Vinson & Elkins' Dallas office. He is a lawyers' lawyer, described in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business as "well seasoned and hard working" (2006). He leads trial teams in patent infringement litigation on both sides of the docket in Texas and elsewhere and is noted for his defence of lawyers and auditors. A lawyer for more than 30 years, Mr Dawson has tried cases for accounting firms, oil and gas companies, lawyers and real estate developers, in matters ranging from fraud to theft.

Mr Dawson is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He is a member of the American Law Institute, the Fifth Circuit Bar Association and the Center for American and International Law. He is a past chair of the science and technology in the courts committee of the American College of Trial Lawyers and lectures on jury trials.

In his client work, Mr Dawson has been recognised by the 2006 edition of the present publication; by The Best Lawyers in America for business litigation, 2003-2005, and for commercial litigation, 2006-2007; and is one of only eight trial lawyers in Dallas "highly recommended" by Global Counsel Handbooks' Leading Lawyers Worldwide, 2004-2005.

Mr Dawson received his BBA from Texas Tech University in 1972 and his JD, with highest honours, from Texas Tech in 1975.
