Philip Culhane is a partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, located in the firm's Hong Kong office, and a member of the corporate department. Culhane specialises in the area of private investments funds, an area in which the firm has a leading international presence. He advises clients in Asia in connection with the organisation of private equity and venture-capital funds, hedge funds and distressed-debt funds. Culhane also represents investors and corporations in connection with direct investments, joint ventures and acquisitions.

Since joining Simpson Thacher in 1992, Culhane has spent significant time in both its New York and Hong Kong offices. He returned to his firm's Hong Kong office from New York in October 1998. He has lived in Beijing and Taipei, and has conversational Mandarin skills.

Culhane became a partner in 2002. He received his BA magna cum laude from Williams College in 1988, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his JD magna cum laude from New York University School of Law in 1992, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif.
