Biography: Construction

Bob Cox is a senior partner at Watt, Tieder, Hoffar & Fitzgerald. Since 1976, he has focused his practice on construction and surety matters, including the preparation and negotiation of construction contracts, and the evaluation and resolution of construction claims, on behalf of owners, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and sureties on public and private projects. Bob has authored and co-authored numerous articles on construction law issues, and frequently lectures on construction law topics. He has served on the board of governors of the Virginia State Bar section of construction law and public contracts, and was chair of the section between 1999 and 2000.

Mr Cox has received numerous honours from both his colleagues and clients. Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business ranks him as a top construction lawyer in Virginia. He is described by Chambers as being 'known as a leader for his work on construction and surety matters' and having 'an immense level of technical know-how', along with the ability to 'inject business sense into legal issues.' A client interviewed by Chambers said of Mr Cox, 'If I were in a fight, I'd have him by my side – he's gentleman-like, a tough guy wearing gloves'. Mr Cox has been named to Best Lawyers in America in its construction law category and to the Virginia Business Legal Elite. Mr Cox has also been honoured by the Washington, DC and Virginia editions of Super Lawyers.

Mr Cox is a graduate of Cornell University and the George Washington University, where he received his JD, with honours.
